In Between : PMC Photo Essay by Deidre Ascano

An Escape

(Framing, Rule of Thirds)

“Is this grief? Pain?  Numbness? And where am I?  No.. What is this feeling?  I can’t bear this any longer, I know for sure. But then I saw the light..”

 Leading...

(Curves)

“I followed the light.  Above these bricks with my mind floating,  I walked and walked, hoping my doubts will be gone. Wait! - I told myself. Where am I going?”

I'm Floating on Lights

(Pattern)

“Blinded by the light, I shut my eyes. For a second.. no, maybe two, I opened them again. Lights of different colors welcomed my blurry sight. But they moved fast.. faster.. faster.. I felt like I’m travelling to a different dimension or something! I closed my eyes again.”

Bliss from the Past

 (Horizon, Foreground, Middleground, Background)

“Ahh.  At last, the weird lights disappeared. Now, where the hell am I? Oh, wait.. I recognize this place. Happiness filled my heart. Ah, I know now! Happy memories. I don’t want to leave now.”

 Service Unavailable

 (Pattern)

“Now, what’s next? All I can see are these lines for quite a long time now. Is the service unavailable? Am I watching the television at three o’clock in the morning?”

Beyond the Limits

 (Framing,Symmetry)

“I thought I was looking through a kaleidoscope. Till I saw small holes. Curiosity, curiosity. I peeped right through one of them and was not disappointed with what I witnessed. Looks like there’s more to see outside.. Oh, wait! I was just inside my own house all along? Nevermind, I’m going out anyways.”

Drops of Verdant

(Fill)

“As I wander outside, already forgotten unexplainable series of events that happened earlier, all I saw were the wonders of nature. I have never felt this contentment from looking at the nature, and touching everything that is catching my eye. Appreciating, that’s what I can describe what I did.”

  Chastity Blooms

(Rule of Thirds)

“ I stopped. “This flower!” – I told myself. White, pure and lovely. I suddenly remember my mom telling me to take care of myself and to reserve my purity for someone who’s worth it. Alas, I can actually hear her voice!”

 Memento mori

(Rule of Thirds)

“Then, silence. Back to normal. I wanted to see my mom, but unexplainable feelings started rushing inside me again. Until, again, I heard a drop. A sound very, very soft.  For a while, I held on to that sound, and lingered to every decibel that my ears heard from it. Then it ended with this next sound I’ve heard, A sound which I know will end this doubts. The sound which I know will be the last I’ll hear. Flatlines....”

 Goal!

 (Fill)

“Finally, I know  I’ve reached my destination. I’m home now. At last I can feel safe, sound and content. Then I told myself, with a smile on my face,  “This is where I now belong. “
